Audience feedback
For our audience feedback we showed a range of people the film and asked then what it was they liked about it and what they thought we could improve we asked a range of people who we thought represented our target audience ranging from about 15-21. We sat them all down and asked them to watch the film and then asked for their opinions after.
David Mais 21- '' I really enjoyed the opening i thought the action of the scene was really high paced and made the scene move really quickly adding to the evident sense of tension and suspense. I really like the idea of the shots of the villainous character in various areas of the train station it really highlights the mystery surrounding the character as to the who they may be. I would definitely keep watching to see the storyline revealed.''
Sam Humphreys 15- ''I did really enjoy the opening and thought the lighting of the train station created a really spooky atmosphere. I liked the images of the masked figure and thought that they were really haunting and scary. I found it a bit hard to understand the storyline. My favourite bit was at the end when the female character is tapped on the shoulder and the really fast train goes past. It was so unsuspecting that it made me jump out my skin!''
Most people told us they really liked the setting of our thriller and thought the lighting of the train station created a really tense atmosphere. They also said that they like the sped up shots of the villain character and said that it created a feeling of being stalked or watched. They also said that they like the idea of a masked figure haunting dreams they said that once this was explained tot them they would have understood and that they thought if we were to make a full length film we would have to reveal the plot within this so the audience were clear. They said they thought the ending was really good and they thought the idea of the female being approached by the masked figure and immediately a train storms past created a sense of fear and caused them to jump as evident in a large number of successful thrillers.
They thought the titles themselves could have been a bit slower and they felt that they seemed a bit rushed. but they did like the idea of the white font standing out against the dark background and the blurred edges which they felt emphasised the dream theme of the thriller highlighting a sense of mystery.
Unfortunately a number of people said that the storyline left them confused and they found it hard to differentiate between the dream and reality. They said that this enigma would keep them watching in order to find out the plot of the story. And obviously if made into a full length film the storyline would conclude itself.
Ella Franich 16- ''I don't really watch very many thrillers as i find them quite scary, but i really enjoyed this i like the idea of the vulnerable female character being followed by the unknown masked figure. And the idea of somebody being able to enter into another dream is brilliant! i love the idea of someone being stabbed in their dream and waking up to a real wound.''

Evaluation activity 1
Title of the film- Incubus. I think that this title suits the conventions of a thriller in that the meaning of the word incubus meaning 'an imaginary demon or evil spirit supposed to descend upon sleeping persons' the meaning of the title already conforms to conventions of a thriller by highlighting to the audience the presence of an evil minded creature/ character/ spirit. Furthermore the fact that the title is only one suits the conventions of a thriller and as such many well known thrillers also have one worded titles in order to leave some mystery surrounding the content of the film e.g. Saw, Inception,Taken.
Titles font ans style of the opening- The titles of the opening are in a white font chosen in order to stand out against the darkness of the station scene they fade in and out against the footage in order to keep a high speed pace and tension that should be evident throughout a conventional thriller. Similarly we chose to use the fade transition on the opening credits the keep apparent the dream theme of the thriller and elevate to the audience the sense of mystery and uncertain. Furthermore we wanted the white of the text to coincide with the white mask of the dream figure. This may challenge the conventions of a typical thriller as many we have analysed appear very rapid and bold containing large bold fonts to convey a sense of drama.
Setting/Location- At the train station is where a large quantity of action takes place within the thriller. This may go against some conventions of a thriller in that a train station is a highly public area and it is unlikely that real life action would occur there such as it does in our thriller, on the other hand the darkness of the train station and the load nice of passing trains to create a stereotypical scene for a thriller. We were really pleased with the atmosphere created by the lighting of the station we felt as if it create just the right amount of light to create a good atmosphere allowing the audience to see the characters well but allowing elements of their figures to be hidden by the darkness.
Costumes and props- During filming our main female or 'victim' was seen to be wearing a long floral dress and white buckle up shoes. We chose a costume like this to highlight to the audience how childlike and venerable the character is. Similarly we chose an ordinary everyday costume for the villain female character to make her appear normal and unsuspecting when she is infant the one who enters the victims dream in disguise. For the masked dream figure we chose an all white mask to keep the character unidentifiable and to contrast against the dark surroundings of the train station. These costumes conform to the conventions of a thriller as they often attempt to portray the victim as small and venerable by making their costume appear white a childlike such as the white blouse of the female character appearing in the opening of 'cape fear'.
How characters are introduced- When the audience is first introduced to the characters there meeting appears very fast and urgent giving the thriller a sense of pace and danger. Similarly we tried to create an enigma surrounding the female character who comes down the stairs to meet her friend the audience are supposed to question whether the female character is in fact the masked figure who appears in the victims dream. The dream figure is introduced in various areas of the train station at which the scene is taking place but is never seen together with the two female character which is supposed to suggests to the audience they are in fact the same person but in a disguise in which she uses to enter her friends dream and murder her. This may be a convention of a thriller as many character to appear to victims within dreams such a 'freddie kruger' and 'inception'. We tried to make our villain evident throughout the opening using inserts of the figure appearing around the train station to leave the audience questioning the presence of this character and the enigma of who the character may be and the fact that this character is never seen together with the female character conveys to the audience the fact that this character could infant be one of the female characters in disguise.Further more we wanted the dream character to appear masked to keep a sense of mystery and suspicion surrounding the characters identity. This may be a convention of a thriller as a lot of villains within thrillers appear to have masked identities such as 'scream' ,'the unborn' and 'freddy vs Jason.'
Story and how the opening sets it up-The story line of the thriller is quite complicated, it sees a character haunt the dreams of her friend in a dream like mask disguise and she later murders this friend within the dream. We tried to highlight to the audience the idea of the characters being in a dream together by showing both characters injecting themselves and entering a dream state and by using black and white effects on most of the dream sequences to highlight the fact that the action is taking place within the dream. When the opening begins we attempted to portray the storyline by setting up these characters to meet at the atmospheric setting of the train station and also including cutaways of the dream figure the suggest the characters presence within this setting and to highlight to the audience the enigma of who this character may be. This conforms to the conventions of a thriller as often unsuspecting peripheral character appear to be the main subjects of the plot.Similarly villains appearing in dreams may be a convention of a thriller with films such as 'nightmare on elm street' containing villainous characters killing victims throughout their dreams. And also the idea of a figure being able to enter a dream can be seen in one of our inspiration for our opening 'inception' which showed characters being able to enter others dreams by using and injection device from a silver case which we tried to convey within our opening by using a silver case and tubing similar to that of the film.
Camerawork and editing-During our opening we tried to use a wide range of camera shots to convey different ideas among the action being shown. We used a lot of long shots of the dream figure to convey to the audience a sense of physical distance and mystery surrounding the character to make sure the audience is aware of the characters presence and importance to the storyline. Similarly we used some high angle shots to portray this character to make them appear dominant and powerful over the venerable female character. We also highlighted this sense of looking down by including some shots of trains speeding past from the bridge at the station to make it seem as if the shot was from the characters viewpoint. This is a convention of a typically thriller as often directors will attempt to make figures appear venerable by showing them being 'looked down on' and physically smaller.

Evaluation Activity 2
We wanted to compare and use A Clockwork Orange to our thriller, we liked the dress sense of the main character and decided to use him as a key character.
Similarities
- The fake eyelashes the key character wore we decided to use because it showed similarities between our character and a clockwork orange
- Also we used the bowler hat
- The key character had quite a pale face so we decided to use a mask we wanted to use a mask so that we were more able to hide the identity of the dream character and leave the audience questioning who the character is
- We kept the characters role the same, being the villain much as Alex is in 'a clock work orange' we wanted to convey to our audience that the character is one of high dominance and power over others such as our victim female character
- In A Clockwork Orange the character is a physco, we kept the same role with our opening to a thriller by keeping our character as a thriller A clockwork orange is seen as a highly psychological thriller so we tried to include similar image to that is similar to the film such as sudden cutaways to the dream figure and sped up shots of the dream character. Such as that seen in a clockwork orange, there is a scene which is sped up, this is where we got the idea from and decided it was a good idea to use.
Differences
- In A Clockwork Orange the key character is male, all of our group is female and we couldn't find an actor we could use that so we had to use one of our group members we actually thought this was a positive decision in the end because it made our dream character seem a lot less suspecting and we felt that it would be more realistic that a friend would leave and come back for a large amount of time and return to her old friend with a affected personality.
- He wasn't actually wearing a mask
- This character is always present in this style of attire, but for our thriller Courtney's wears 2 changes of clothes appearing in both ordinary , unsuspecting attire and this attire when present in the dream scene highlighting to the audience a sense of enigma surrounding her true identity

What kind of media institution might distribute you media product and why?
What is a Distribution Company
What is a Production Company?
A production company is a company responsible for physical production of new media. The company may also be responsible for the funding or raising money for the production. The company may be either a small company or a larger one, selling its product to a film studio in the case of film and television, it may be the studio itself. It is common for actors to form their own production companies so that they can have more control over their own careers.
Our production company
Our Production Company name is Engrosser INC. by having our own company we are able to make our own choices. Because we are a small company there is a possibility that we wont be able to fund the filming ourselves, but such as raising the money.
What is a Distribution Company
A film distributor is a company or an individual that is responsible for releasing films to the public. A distributor may do this directly if the distributor owns the theatres or distribution network.
this is an example of a film distributor they are called Arrow Films . as you can see in the picture, they have a advertisement for 'the killing' this website would be perfect for us to have our film advertised on, as it already has a lot of similar film genres to ours.
